2026 Reading Resolution

I like setting goals – it makes it look like my life is about to go somewhere (or at least a trajectory). So here are my reading goals for 2026.

Don’t buy new books

Buy more used books or more ARCs – seriously, there are a lot of used books stores out there and more indie stores that sell overstock at a cheaper price. Why not take advantage of this fact. Who knows but this might actually save the economy.

Also, you never know what you might find. There are a lot discarded books there that have more value than the price that has been placed on the tag. Like dedications written on the very first page of the book or a letter that was stuck between the pages. One of my best finds was a plane ticket of one of my long lost friends. That ticket made me get in touch with her and that was how we rebuilt communication.

Another thing about this is libraries. Placing holds in libraries actually help out authors and the reading community. The more a book is requested, the more the author knows that their book is well-loved. The more the author is loved, the more book that we have. The more books that we have, the better read, informed, and smarter our society will become (hopefully, given the right kind of books).

Go through my TBR

I already have a lot saved up: in my personal library, e-books, and ARCs. I think this one goes with the “don’t buy a new book” goal that I have. There are already a lot of people that have given me their old books and I do want to get through these books and pay-it-forward soon.

Get into more book series

And speaking books that are being given to me, I have been given a lot of books that are in a series but not the entire series because gift givers believe that I have read them because I am a reader. For the most part, I really haven’t because I am more of a stand-alone person but better late than never. So, I will try and get into the reading of book series.

Read More physical books

Seriously, my eyes do hurt from all of the screen glare. I have half the heart to buy one of those e-readers that say that they do mimic the matted texture of paper, but I thought to myself: why not just use paper? Plus this is so much more economical and ecologically friendly than buy more and more electronics.
